On Friday night, I attended Hiroko's farewell party. She will go back to Japan on Sunday because she finished her exchange program here. She used to live in Fenner Hall and was one of our group members. We often ate dinner together in the kichen, sharing precious and enjoyable time. There were unacountalbe activities we enjoyed together. We went to a theater, bar, club, or joined party, attended some festival, etc. Honestly, everybody in Fenner will miss her after her going back to Japan. Her sunny smile and merry personality was really attractive and always cheered us up. Of course, besides Fenner's friends, many her friends came the party and said farewell to her. Obviously, she is likely to be a respected person. During the party, a good old memory rushed into my mind. She was a kind of matured person, hense often took care of me and give me some interesting story in Fenner. She was like my elder sister. Hopefully, I wish someday she will come back here and study PHD.

In discussing Environmental Impacts of constructing windfarm on Majura Mountain, there were many devergence of opinion, leading to heated argument. Especially, given the international environment, it seems hard to arrange the different way of thinking. Frankly, I keenly recognized the difficulties to manage various opinions for one goal.

Then, I attended Sarah's birthday party. We just went to Asian restaurant called Tip Top. I kept talking to Australian guy who was actually very nice guy. Accoring to him, he is studying engeneer in the military university in Canberra. Then, he continuously will work in navy in the future. He told me an interesting talk about navy such as their daily life in their Hall or in classes. I was glad to talk to him so that I have not talked to Australian recently and actually he was quite friendly to me.

As an event of sustainable ecosystems' class, I visited a sewarage center and a recycle centere in Canberra to see the waste management system there. Actually, these two facilities were the place at which our waste arrive as a result that we blined ourselves about daily waste.

Australia Capital Territory (ACT) Government is aiming to achieve no waste until 2010, this goal seems to be difficult, though. The sewarage systems seemed to be very novel and seen some devise. They used up high temprature to provide agricultural ash for fertilizer. They absorb phosphorous from drainage water and put it into the ash. Also, the institute was quite cost-effective. Surprisingly, the purified water by the sewarage will flow into Aderade and be used by drinking water !!

It should be also noted that rate of recycling in Canberra is now 30% which is the best ratio in Australia and very high rate even compared to world standard, according to the explanation of the personnel working there. We could find many metal products and wood pulp being processed by machine. On the top of the mountain near the recycling center, they reclaimed toxic waste which can not be dealt with in the factory.

Today's lesson was quite useful. b0008852_1825657.jpgI can say it deserves hundreds classes. As an environmentalist, I keenly realized the importance of visiting directly to the spot and field.

Fortunately, my frined, Sato was finally employed by Tokyo government. Two years ago, actually before I came here, we two studied together very hard for each goals. Surprisingly, everyday we commuted our university's library everyday from 9:00 in the morning to 21:00 in the evening. I know therefore his fantastic efforts and so does he. Hence, I was very glad to hear welcome news from him yesterday. Actually, he often talked his dream related to Tokyo government by email. Then, he got his dream. Needless to say, this event definitely inspired and inspirit me. Dreams comes true. He proved this saying practically. b0008852_2212521.jpg

With project members in the Environmental Integrated Assesment class, I went to Majura Mountain to investigate the possibility to build wind farm trail on the top of the mountain. We need to visit directly and report with some picture. Fortunately, we could meet professional researchers who also assess environmental impact and ask them some questions. Nothing to say, they gave us very useful and practical advice. Personally, I enjoyed this field trip and hiking to the Mountain. Through the practice, I recognized that to visit the actual field is significant process in term of valuing environmental impact. Although I do not have any specialized knowledge, even I could obviously expect some adverse impact due to the project.

There was desert night at 9 o'clock. Surprisingly, I tried to cook coffee cake, but I totally failed. My tasteless cake invited everybody's laughter whereas my friend's cookie was admired by all of them........ I difenitely will try again !!

I finally started to prepare for agriculture. Today, I cultivated soil and mixed compost to it. It takes one hour in total. A bit tired, and knew how much farmers use energy for our dairy food. Ten days later, I can plant letus' seed. If I can succeed the plantation of letus, then I would like to try to raise wheat. It can be source of flour and I can cook bread with this hand-made flour. I already bought yeast in the Dicson today, too. I also bought some material for snack cooking today. Now, I have many hobbies. My life is becoming so much fun !!

I attended engagement party for Eblin who used to live in Fenner. She got Australian boyfrined, and engaged with him recently. In short, surprisingly, they decided to marry in less than no time, but they looked so happy and definitely they will be happy forever.

After coming back from classes, I rushed to go shopping to buy engagement gift in Civic. I just chose candle ornament because I guessed everyone give her very paractical gife such as wine glasses or dishes. I did not want to overlap these stuff.

Then, I went to Chinese restaurant with Fenner friends. what we ate there was kinds of luxuary dishes. Actually, I ate heartily and talk to neighbor whose name was bondah who comes from Brazil. She taught me many things related to Brazil. The chatting warmed up because she and Sarah were very talkative and friendly. Time fried. Eblin and Rick seemed busy to talk their friends. Everybody appeared to celebrate them from the heart. Even I became happy in attending the party.

Exam of ecological sustainability finished today. What the test asked was what I covered. Hope I get better results.

I went to graduate house to eat dinner with my friends. Actually, we got free tickets from our friend living in graduate house. We attended the party so that she could not attend the party with some reason. We were special alternate of her. The dinner was really luxurious. We cannot imagine to eat such splendid food in Fenner Hall. I enjoyed soup, lumb and cheese cake.

We spent a hour after eating in Pon's room. She seems to read many many English books for her thesis. I need to follow her example. b0008852_2354187.jpg
